Overview

LysSP07 is a metagenome-derived, Streptococcus-targeting endolysin (muralytic enzyme) discovered through mining human gut phage genome repositories, specifically the Gut Phage Database (GPD) and the Gut Virome Database (GVD) [E0568]. Developed by researchers at the Helmholtz Centre Munich, the University of Sadat City, and Paracelsus Medical University, LysSP07 exhibits potent muralytic and bactericidal activity against *Streptococcus pyogenes* [E0568]. In preclinical evaluations using a *Galleria mellonella* infection model, LysSP07 significantly improved larval survival when challenged with *S. pyogenes*, highlighting its potential as a novel antimicrobial agent to combat antimicrobial resistance and support microbiome engineering [E0568].
