Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lyumjev (ultra-rapid lispro) is an ultra-rapid-acting mealtime insulin analog developed by Eli Lilly and Company for the management of glycemic control in adults and children with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is a novel formulation of insulin lispro (LY-900014) that incorporates two key excipients: citrate, which increases local vascular permeability, and treprostinil, a prostacyclin analog that induces local vasodilation. These components work together to accelerate the absorption of insulin lispro from the subcutaneous injection site into the systemic circulation. This pharmacokinetic profile results in a faster onset and shorter duration of action compared to standard rapid-acting insulins like Humalog, more closely mimicking the physiological prandial insulin secretion of a person without diabetes. Lyumjev was approved by the FDA in June 2020 and is available in U-100 and U-200 concentrations for administration via subcutaneous injection, continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (insulin pumps), or intravenous infusion.
