Overview

M-M-R II is a live attenuated virus vaccine indicated for the simultaneous immunization against measles, mumps, and rubella. It contains weakened forms of the measles (Enders' Edmonston strain), mumps (Jeryl Lynn strain), and rubella (Wistar RA 27/3 strain) viruses. The vaccine works by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies against these viruses, providing protection from future infection. It is administered as a subcutaneous or intramuscular injection and is typically given to individuals one year of age or older for primary prevention of these diseases[1][3][7][9]. Developed by Merck Sharp & Dohme (Merck & Co.), it does not contain preservatives or adjuvants but includes stabilizers such as sorbitol, sucrose, hydrolyzed gelatin, recombinant human albumin, fetal bovine serum, neomycin (as a residual antibiotic from manufacturing), and other buffer/media ingredients[1][2][3]. The immune response induced by this vaccine has been shown to persist for many years in most recipients[1].
