Overview

**M-Vax** is an individualized therapeutic cancer vaccine developed by AVAX Technologies for melanoma. It consists of a patient's own melanoma cells that are irradiated, chemically haptenized with dinitrophenyl, and administered by intradermal injection with Bacille Calmette-Guérin as an immunologic adjuvant. Haptenization is intended to increase immune recognition of autologous tumor antigens and induce tumor-reactive cellular immunity, including delayed-type hypersensitivity responses and infiltration of melanoma metastases by activated T cells. M-Vax was studied in stage III and stage IV melanoma, including registered phase I/II and phase III trials; its present overall development and commercial status could not be confirmed from current public trial records.
