M0002 is an orally active, selective vasopressin V2 receptor antagonist developed as a small molecule aquaretic. It inhibits water re-absorption in the kidneys by blocking the vasopressin V2 receptor, leading to increased water excretion (diuresis) without significant loss of electrolytes. This mechanism distinguishes it from traditional diuretics and makes it potentially beneficial for patients who do not respond adequately to standard diuretic therapy. The drug was originally developed by Johnson & Johnson and later advanced by Shire-Movetis (now part of Takeda).
