Overview

M1-c6v1 is a mutant variant of the recombinant oncolytic alphavirus M1, developed as a gene therapy product with potential antineoplastic (anticancer) activity. Upon intravenous administration, it selectively infects and replicates in tumor cells, leading to viral-mediated tumor cell lysis. The selectivity of the virus is influenced by oncogenic signaling pathways such as RAS/RAF/MAPK/p-ERK, which promote its replication and cytolytic effects in cancer cells. The entry receptor for this virus has been identified as matrix remodeling associated 8 (MXRA8), which facilitates viral attachment and internalization into target cells. M1-c6v1 is under investigation primarily for the treatment of primary liver cancer and has received orphan drug designation in the United States[1][2][3][7][8].
