Overview

M102 is an orally available, proprietary small molecule drug candidate developed for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, with a primary focus on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). It acts as a dual activator of the NRF2 (nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2) and HSF1 (heat shock factor 1) signaling pathways, both of which are downregulated in ALS. By activating these pathways, M102 reduces oxidative stress and inflammation, enhances mitochondrial biogenesis, initiates autophagy, refolds misfolded proteins, disaggregates protein aggregates, and clears toxic protein clumps. Additionally, it suppresses the pro-inflammatory NF-kB pathway. Preclinical studies have shown that M102 can slow or even reverse disease progression in ALS models. The drug is being developed using a precision medicine approach to identify patients most likely to benefit based on genetic markers[1][2][5][7].
