M2R-01 is an autologous cell therapy candidate developed by M2rlab S.L. for the treatment of acute kidney injury (AKI). The therapeutic process involves the collection of a patient's own monocytes via leukapheresis, which are then differentiated into macrophages and polarized *ex vivo* into an anti-inflammatory M2 phenotype. These modified cells are subsequently re-infused into the patient, where they are designed to home to the site of renal injury. Once in the kidney, the M2 macrophages modulate the local immune environment by secreting anti-inflammatory and pro-regenerative factors, such as interleukin-10 (IL-10) and transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta). This mechanism aims to suppress the damaging inflammatory cascade associated with AKI, promote the repair of renal parenchyma, and potentially prevent the transition from acute injury to chronic kidney disease.
