Overview

mAb1B50-1 is a monoclonal antibody developed by researchers at Peking University Cancer Hospital that targets the α2δ1 subunit (specifically isoform 5) of voltage-gated calcium channels. This target serves as a specific marker for tumor-initiating cells (TICs) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and pancreatic cancer. mAb1B50-1 works by identifying and eliminating these stem-cell-like populations, which are associated with tumor recurrence, chemoresistance, and metastasis. In preclinical models, the antibody has demonstrated the ability to reduce tumor burden and prevent recurrence by eliminating the TIC population in HCC engraftments. It also shows potential as a diagnostic biomarker for predicting rapid HCC recurrence following surgical resection.
