mAbBC1 is a novel monoclonal antibody that specifically targets the aberrant glycosylated α3β1 integrin, which is abundantly expressed in bladder cancer tissues. By binding to this aberrant integrin, mAbBC1 decreases cell-extracellular matrix adhesion, increases cell-cell adhesion, and promotes natural killer (NK) cell-mediated destruction of bladder tumor cells. It also efficiently inhibits the proliferation and migration of bladder cancer cells and human tumor growth in xenografted mouse models. Furthermore, mAbBC1 controls cyclin D1 expression by reducing mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) activity in bladder tumor cells. This antibody is being investigated as an effective immunotherapy for bladder cancer.
