MAbCo19 (also known as MAD0004J08) is a human monoclonal antibody developed by Toscana Life Sciences Sviluppo for the treatment of COVID-19. Discovered by the Monoclonal Antibody Discovery (MAD) Lab led by Rino Rappuoli, the antibody was isolated from the B cells of recovered COVID-19 patients. It specifically targets the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, neutralizing the virus by blocking its interaction with the human ACE2 receptor. Unlike many other COVID-19 antibodies that require intravenous infusion, MAbCo19 was developed for intramuscular administration. Clinical development reached Phase 2/3; however, the trial was suspended in early 2022 due to the antibody's diminished neutralizing activity against the Omicron variant.
