Mabgenex is developing a monoclonal antibody-based therapeutic for the treatment of Common Krait (*Bungarus caeruleus*) envenomation. This preclinical-stage program aims to replace traditional animal-derived polyclonal antivenoms with highly specific, recombinant monoclonal antibodies discovered using the company's machine learning-driven platforms, PrecinAb and OptinAb. The antibodies are designed to neutralize the potent neurotoxins in the venom that cause respiratory paralysis. The development is supported by the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) through a Biotechnology Ignition Grant (BIG). This approach represents a modern alternative to traditional antivenoms, aiming to reduce the risk of adverse reactions like serum sickness and anaphylaxis while providing standardized potency.
