MabVax Therapeutics developed a therapeutic polyvalent vaccine for ovarian cancer, licensed from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). The vaccine is designed to stimulate the immune system to recognize and target multiple carbohydrate-based antigens frequently expressed on the surface of ovarian cancer cells, including Globo H, Lewis Y, GM2, Sialyl-Tn (sTn), and Thomsen-Friedenreich (TF) antigen. These antigens are conjugated to a carrier protein, Keyhole Limpet Hemocyanin (KLH), and administered with the saponin-based adjuvant QS-21 to enhance immunogenicity. The vaccine was advanced into a proof-of-concept Phase 2 multi-center clinical trial for patients with recurrent ovarian cancer. MabVax's broader strategy utilized these vaccines to identify and recover fully human monoclonal antibodies from responding patients, leading to the development of other therapeutic assets.
