Overview
Macrogol 3350 (also known as polyethylene glycol 3350) is an osmotic laxative used for the treatment of occasional constipation. It is a synthetic, water-soluble polymer that is not absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract. By retaining water in the bowel through osmotic action, macrogol 3350 increases stool volume and softens the stool, thereby facilitating easier bowel movements and improving gut motility. In Canada, it is marketed under the brand name Lax-A-Day by Norwell Consumer Healthcare (an affiliate of Pharmascience) and Pendopharm, where it is widely recommended by physicians and pharmacists as a gentle, non-stimulant option for constipation relief.
