macrogol 3350

Barex is a brand of macrogol 3350 (polyethylene glycol 3350) developed and marketed by Laboratorio Dominguez in Argentina. It is an osmotic laxative used for the treatment of occasional or chronic constipation and for bowel cleansing (colon preparation) prior to diagnostic, endoscopic, or surgical procedures. The product line includes several formulations: Barex Unipeg (pure macrogol 3350), Barex 70 and Barex S (macrogol 3350 with electrolytes to maintain isotonic balance), Barex Plus (macrogol 3350 with electrolytes and ascorbic acid/sodium ascorbate), and Barex Kit (which combines macrogol 3350 with bisacodyl tablets). Macrogol 3350 is a high molecular weight polymer that is minimally absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and acts physically by binding water molecules, increasing stool volume and softening feces to promote peristalsis.
