Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MacuShield is an eye health dietary supplement formulated to support and maintain healthy vision, particularly in individuals at risk of or experiencing age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The core formulation, known as LMZ3, contains a specific 10:10:2 ratio of three macular carotenoids: lutein (10 mg), meso-zeaxanthin (10 mg), and zeaxanthin (2 mg). These carotenoids naturally accumulate in the macula lutea of the eye, where they form the macular pigment. MacuShield works by enhancing macular pigment optical density (MPOD), filtering harmful short-wavelength blue light, and acting as a potent antioxidant to neutralize reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reduce oxidative stress in the retina. Originally developed by MacuVision Europe, the brand was acquired by Alliance Pharma in 2015 and is marketed in various regions, including Pakistan by AGP.
