madecassic acid

Madecassic acid is a naturally occurring pentacyclic triterpenoid compound primarily found in the medicinal plant *Centella asiatica* (gotu kola). It acts as an antioxidant and plant metabolite. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that madecassic acid exhibits anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, immunomodulatory, and anticancer activities. Its mechanisms include blocking nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) activation and altering lipid metabolism in animal models. Madecassic acid has also been shown to stimulate collagen production—supporting wound healing—and to modulate immune cell populations and induce apoptosis in cancer models[1][3][5][6]. It is considered experimental with no approved pharmaceutical indications.
