Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Madinette is a combined oral contraceptive tablet containing the synthetic progestogen chlormadinone acetate (2 mg) and the synthetic estrogen ethinylestradiol (0.03 mg). It is a monophasic preparation, meaning each active tablet contains the same fixed dose of both hormones. Madinette is primarily indicated for female contraception (pregnancy prevention) and is also used to treat moderate acne vulgaris and seborrhea in women who require hormonal contraception, due to the anti-androgenic properties of chlormadinone acetate. The drug works by inhibiting the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis, suppressing ovulation, altering cervical mucus to prevent sperm penetration, and modifying the endometrium to prevent implantation.
