Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Maekmoondong-tang (also known as Bakumondo-to in Japan) is a traditional East Asian herbal medicine formula primarily used to treat chronic respiratory conditions characterized by a dry, hacking cough and throat irritation. The formula typically consists of six botanical ingredients: *Ophiopogon japonicus*, *Pinellia ternata*, *Oryza sativa*, *Ziziphus jujuba*, *Panax ginseng*, and *Glycyrrhiza uralensis*. It is widely prescribed for conditions such as chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma, and post-operative cough, particularly in lung cancer patients. Maekmoondong-tang exerts its therapeutic effects through anti-inflammatory, antitussive, and expectorant activities, often by modulating airway mucin production and reducing hypersensitivity of the cough reflex.
