Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Maesa kamerunensis extract is a botanical extract derived from the plant *Maesa kamerunensis* (syn. *Maesa kamerunensis* Mez.), a species native to tropical regions such as Cameroon. The extract contains structurally diverse triterpenoid saponins, including newly identified compounds like maesakamerunoside D (maekamerunoside D). In preclinical studies, various fractions of the extract (such as aqueous, n-butanol, ethyl acetate, and hexane fractions) have demonstrated significant biological activities, including anticholinesterase, antidiabetic, anti-urease, and anti-tyrosinase properties. Specifically, it has shown inhibitory activity against acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), alpha-amylase, alpha-glucosidase, tyrosinase, and urease, suggesting potential therapeutic applications in neurodegenerative disorders, diabetes, skin disorders, and bacterial infections.
