Overview

MAFU granules is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by the Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Capital Medical University, for the treatment of idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN). The name "MAFU" is derived from its core herbal components, Ma Huang (Ephedra) and Fu Zi (Aconite). The regimen follows the "Wenyang Jiebiao" principle, which translates to warming the yang and relieving the exterior, a strategy used in TCM to address edema and kidney dysfunction. It is currently being evaluated in a randomized Phase 2–3 clinical trial in China, where its efficacy and safety are compared against the immunosuppressant cyclosporine in adult patients with moderate to high-risk IMN.
