MAG-SPM is an experimental formulation consisting of monoglyceride omega-3 fatty acids that are pre-metabolized to produce specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs) using a lipoxygenase enzyme from soy. SPMs are bioactive lipid mediators derived from omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), with a primary function in promoting the resolution of inflammation and restoration of tissue homeostasis. MAG-SPM is developed to enhance the anti-inflammatory and resolution properties of omega-3 supplements and is being studied for its effects on inflammation in vitro, specifically in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). Its mechanism involves acting as a precursor/enhancer of SPMs that are naturally produced in the body by selective oxidation of omega-3s[2].
