This investigational immunotherapy is an autologous cell-based vaccine designed for the treatment of metastatic melanoma. The therapy consists of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) harvested from the patient, which are subsequently pulsed or loaded with four specific HLA-A2-restricted melanoma-associated peptides: MAGE-3 (Melanoma-associated antigen 3), Melan-A (MART-1), gp100 (Melanocyte protein PMEL), and NA17 (N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase V). The mechanism of action involves using the autologous PBMCs as antigen-presenting cells to prime and activate the patient's own cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) against tumor cells expressing these specific antigens. This multi-antigen approach is intended to overcome tumor heterogeneity and reduce the risk of immune escape, a common challenge in single-antigen cancer vaccines.
