Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Magnólia is a topical intranasal gel formulation of the synthetic corticosteroid mometasone furoate, developed by the Brazilian pharmaceutical company EMS. It is currently in Phase III clinical development for the treatment of moderate-to-severe persistent or intermittent allergic rhinitis in patients aged 12 years and older. Mometasone furoate acts as a potent agonist of the glucocorticoid receptor, exerting anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects by suppressing the release of inflammatory mediators and inhibiting the recruitment of inflammatory cells such as mast cells and eosinophils to the nasal mucosa. The gel formulation is designed to provide localized delivery and potentially improved residence time in the nasal cavity compared to traditional aqueous nasal sprays, aiming to alleviate symptoms such as nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, and sneezing.
