Magnesium adenosine triphosphate is a magnesium-coordinated ATP preparation, also described as ATP-magnesium or ATP-MgCl2. Mg-ATP is the physiologically relevant ATP complex that serves as a substrate and cofactor for ATP-dependent enzymes and cellular energy-dependent processes. When administered extracellularly in experimental settings, it can act as a purinergic agonist; in a murine polymicrobial-sepsis model, Mg-ATP activated macrophage P2X7 receptors and improved bacterial clearance, inflammation control, and survival. Historical preclinical and limited early clinical investigations evaluated intravenous ATP-MgCl2 for shock, ischemia, and ischemia-reperfusion injury, but it is not an identified approved pharmaceutical product or branded therapeutic program.
