Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Magnesium aluminum silicate is a naturally occurring mineral from the montmorillonite group, refined into a powder for use in pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications. It acts as an absorbent, anticaking agent, opacifying agent, viscosity-increasing agent, suspending agent, tablet and capsule disintegrant, and tablet binder. Pharmacologically active as an over-the-counter antacid for self-treatment of heartburn, sour stomach, or acid indigestion, it works by reacting with gastric acid to increase pH and neutralize excess stomach acid[1][3]. It is also used as an excipient in various medications[2].
