Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Magnesium ascorbate is the magnesium salt of ascorbic acid, with molecular formula C12H14MgO12. It is a buffered, relatively non-acidic vitamin C source that also supplies magnesium and is primarily used as an oral dietary supplement rather than as a regulated pharmaceutical product. Its nutritional actions derive from provision of ascorbate, a reducing antioxidant and enzymatic cofactor, and magnesium, an essential mineral cofactor involved in numerous metabolic processes. It has appeared in historical preclinical cardiovascular research, but it has no established contemporary pharmaceutical development program or specific drug target.
