Overview

Magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (MAP) is a stable, water-soluble derivative of Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid). Unlike pure ascorbic acid, which is highly prone to oxidation, MAP remains stable in various formulations and is hydrolyzed by phosphatases in the body to release active ascorbic acid. In the context of oral care, it is used in dentifrices to treat gingivitis and periodontal inflammation. Its therapeutic effects are attributed to its ability to promote collagen synthesis in gingival tissues and its potent antioxidant properties, which help neutralize reactive oxygen species and reduce tissue damage. It is also widely used in dermatological applications for skin lightening and as an anti-aging agent.
