Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Magnesium aspartate is a magnesium salt of aspartic acid, commonly used as a dietary supplement to provide magnesium. Magnesium (Mg2+) is an essential cation crucial for various physiological processes, including maintaining cellular homeostasis. Research indicates that magnesium supplementation, such as with magnesium aspartate, can play a significant role in cell survival, particularly in dopaminergic neurons. It has been shown to restore intracellular magnesium levels, increase the expression and function of the Transient Receptor Potential Melastatin 7 (TRPM7) channel, and protect cells from neurotoxin-mediated death by reducing caspase-3 activity and restoring mitochondrial membrane potential.
