Magnesium chloride + sodium acetate anhydrous + sodium chloride + potassium chloride is a sterile intravenous multiple-electrolyte additive used in total parenteral nutrition to supplement nutrition solutions containing concentrated dextrose and amino acids delivered by central venous infusion. It provides magnesium, sodium, potassium, chloride, and acetate to help maintain or restore electrolyte and acid-base homeostasis in adults with or at risk of electrolyte imbalance during parenteral nutrition support. Its pharmacologic effect is replacement therapy rather than receptor-mediated signaling: the administered ions replenish extracellular electrolytes, while acetate serves as a bicarbonate precursor after metabolism and can help buffer metabolic acidosis. The product is marketed as TPN Electrolytes and is used as an electrolyte replacement component of parenteral nutrition regimens.
