Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Magnesium chloride + sodium chloride + calcium chloride + sodium lactate + dextrose is a multi-component **peritoneal dialysis solution** used for intraperitoneal administration in patients with acute or chronic renal failure requiring peritoneal dialysis. Developed and marketed by Baxter, including products such as **Dianeal Low Calcium with Dextrose** and **Delflex**, it is a non-biologic combination of inorganic salts and dextrose that functions as an electrolyte replacement and osmotic dialysis fluid. Dextrose serves as the principal osmotic agent that promotes ultrafiltration across the peritoneal membrane, while sodium, calcium, magnesium, chloride, and lactate help maintain electrolyte and acid-base balance during dialysis exchanges. The therapeutic effect is achieved locally within the peritoneal cavity through solute and fluid exchange across the peritoneal membrane rather than through a discrete receptor-mediated pharmacology.
