Overview

Plasma-Lyte A is a sterile, isotonic, nonpyrogenic multiple electrolyte injection solution developed by Baxter International. It is designed to mimic the electrolyte composition of human plasma, with a pH of 7.4. The solution contains sodium chloride, sodium gluconate, sodium acetate trihydrate, potassium chloride, and magnesium chloride. It serves as a source of water and electrolytes and acts as an alkalinizing agent due to the presence of acetate and gluconate, which are hydrogen ion acceptors. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of dehydration and electrolyte imbalance, as well as for general irrigation, rinsing, and washing during surgical procedures.
