Overview

Gefomag is an oral magnesium supplement containing magnesium glycerophosphate, developed and marketed by Navana Pharmaceuticals. It is indicated for the treatment and prevention of chronic hypomagnesaemia. Magnesium is an essential intracellular electrolyte that acts as a cofactor in more than 300 enzymatic reactions, including those involved in protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function, blood glucose control, and cellular energy production (ATP synthesis). Magnesium glycerophosphate is highly water-soluble and remains soluble in the alkaline environment of the intestine, providing superior bioavailability and rapid absorption with a lower incidence of gastrointestinal side effects compared to inorganic magnesium salts.
