Magnesium monoethylfumarate is a small molecule and a derivative of fumaric acid. It has been investigated for its antiproliferative and cytotoxic effects, particularly in hyperproliferative keratinocyte cultures, suggesting potential relevance in conditions like psoriasis. Studies have shown it inhibits DNA and protein synthesis in these cells. However, its antiproliferative activity was found to be less potent compared to dimethylfumarate, and it did not exhibit a clear dissociation between its cytotoxic and antiproliferative potential, unlike some other fumaric acid derivatives. The antipsoriatic potential of fumaric therapies is largely attributed to dimethylfumarate.
