Magnesium orotate is a mineral supplement composed of magnesium and orotic acid. It is primarily used to prevent and treat magnesium deficiency. Orotic acid acts as a transporter, facilitating the cellular uptake of magnesium, which may result in superior absorption and bioavailability compared to other forms of magnesium supplements[1][3][6]. Magnesium plays essential roles in cardiovascular health, muscle function, nerve transmission, and energy production (ATP synthesis). Orotic acid also participates in pyrimidine biosynthesis for nucleic acids, supporting cell growth and repair[3][6]. Magnesium orotate has been studied as an adjuvant therapy for conditions such as congestive heart failure, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, sleep disorders, stress-related symptoms, athletic performance enhancement (muscle fatigue/cramps), and possibly neuropsychiatric disorders due to its antioxidative properties[4][5][6]. However, evidence for some indications remains preliminary.
