Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Investigational combination therapy consisting of magnesium sulfate and dextrose, administered via intra-articular injection for the treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. Developed by Cairo University, this treatment aims to alleviate pain and clicking sounds associated with TMJ dysfunction. Magnesium sulfate acts as an N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist and possesses local immunomodulatory properties, which may help reduce inflammatory pain. Dextrose is commonly utilized in prolotherapy to stimulate tissue repair and healing within the joint space. The therapy is currently being evaluated in early-phase clinical trials (NCT03675659) specifically targeting female patients.
