A combination medication consisting of magnesium sulfate and salbutamol (albuterol) used primarily in the treatment of acute asthma. Magnesium sulfate is a bronchodilator that relaxes bronchial muscles and expands airways, allowing more air to flow in and out of the lungs. It works by inhibiting calcium ion influx into smooth muscle cells, inhibiting acetylcholine and histamine release, and promoting synthesis of nitric oxide and prostacyclin which stimulate broncho- and vasodilation. Salbutamol (also known as albuterol) is a selective β2-adrenergic receptor agonist used for treating bronchospasm in asthma and other chronic bronchopulmonary disorders. It relaxes airway smooth muscle and inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators, effectively relieving airway spasms. The combination is typically administered via nebulization for patients experiencing acute asthma attacks, particularly severe cases that may not respond adequately to standard treatments.
