Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bell's Magnesium Sulphate Paste is a traditional topical over-the-counter (OTC) drawing paste developed and marketed by Bell's Healthcare. It is formulated as a fixed-dose combination containing dried magnesium sulphate (47.76% w/w) and phenol (0.49% w/w) in a glycerol base. Magnesium sulphate acts as an osmotic and hygroscopic agent, absorbing moisture to draw out pus, fluid, and foreign bodies (such as splinters) from the skin while reducing localized inflammation and swelling. Phenol serves as an active antiseptic and local anesthetic component to prevent infection and alleviate pain. The paste is indicated as an adjunct in the management of superficial skin infections, including boils, carbuncles, and abscesses, as well as for drawing out splinters.
