Magnetite + zinc oxide refers to a class of multifunctional inorganic nanocomposites, typically synthesized as core-shell or hybrid nanoparticles, investigated for various theranostic applications. The combination utilizes the superparamagnetic properties of magnetite (Fe3O4) to enable magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast enhancement, magnetic-field-guided drug delivery, and magnetic hyperthermia—a process where an external alternating magnetic field induces localized heating to thermally ablate malignant cells. The zinc oxide (ZnO) component contributes intrinsic antimicrobial activity and enables the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which can be utilized for photodynamic therapy or direct bactericidal action. While widely explored in preclinical research for oncology and infectious diseases, this specific combination is currently an investigational material and has not been approved for clinical use as a standard pharmaceutical product.
