Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Magnolia flos nanoparticle extract is a nanotechnology-based formulation of the traditional Chinese medicine *Magnolia flos* (Xin Yi), developed by the Chinese PLA General Hospital for the treatment of allergic rhinitis. The formulation utilizes nanoparticles to enhance the stability and bioavailability of the volatile oils and active lignans, such as magnolol and honokiol, found in the flower buds. It acts primarily by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators from mast cells, reducing IgE levels, and modulating the Th1/Th2 cytokine balance to alleviate nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, and sneezing. By employing nanoparticle delivery, the extract achieves better mucosal penetration and sustained release compared to traditional aqueous or oil-based extracts.
