Overview
Magnolin is a natural lignan compound and a major bioactive component of Magnolia flos (the flower buds of Magnolia species, especially Magnolia biondii and related plants). It has been traditionally used in oriental medicine for the treatment of headaches, nasal congestion, and other respiratory symptoms. Magnolin acts as an inhibitor of the Ras/ERKs/RSK2 signaling axis by targeting the active pocket of ERK1 and ERK2 kinases. Preclinical studies suggest that magnolin exhibits anti-inflammatory, anticancer, neuroprotective, and possibly anxiolytic effects. Its mechanism involves inhibition of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) activity, which plays a role in cell proliferation and survival pathways[6][7]. Magnolin is under investigation primarily as a research chemical; it is not approved as a pharmaceutical drug.
