Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MagSense HER2 Imaging Agent (MSH2IA) is a targeted molecular MRI contrast agent developed by Imagion Biosystems for the non-invasive detection of axillary lymph node metastasis in patients with HER2-positive (HER2+) breast cancer. The agent consists of a superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticle (SPION) core coated with biocompatible polymers and functionalized with the monoclonal antibody trastuzumab. Trastuzumab specifically targets the Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER2) expressed on breast cancer cells. Following peritumoral injection, the nanoparticles migrate through the lymphatic system to the axillary lymph nodes. If HER2+ cancer cells are present, the agent binds to them, creating a localized change in the magnetic field that is detectable via MRI. This technology aims to provide a more accurate and less invasive alternative to surgical staging or biopsy of the axilla.
