Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Mahamasha oil is a traditional Ayurvedic polyherbal formulation primarily used for the treatment of neurological and musculoskeletal disorders. Its principal ingredient is *Vigna mungo* (black gram), processed in a base of sesame oil along with milk and a complex blend of herbs including the *Dashamoola* (ten roots), *Withania somnifera* (Ashwagandha), and *Sida cordifolia* (Bala). It is traditionally indicated for conditions such as hemiplegia, facial palsy, muscle atrophy, deafness, and tremors. The oil is believed to balance the Vata dosha, providing nourishment to the nerves and muscles while reducing inflammation and pain. It is commonly applied topically through massage (Abhyanga) or administered via nasal drops (Nasya) and oral intake in specific therapeutic contexts.
