Overview

Mahuang Fuzi Decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula primarily composed of *Ephedra sinica* (Mahuang) and *Aconitum carmichaelii* (Fuzi), often with the addition of *Glycyrrhiza uralensis* (Gancao). It is traditionally used to treat syndromes characterized by Yang deficiency and exterior cold. In modern clinical research, specifically a study led by the Beijing Hospital of TCM (ChiCTR1900021485), it is being evaluated for the treatment of idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN) in patients categorized with Shaoyin-Taiyin syndrome according to Liujing syndrome differentiation. The formula is intended to reduce proteinuria and improve renal function by warming the yang, dispersing cold, and promoting diuresis to alleviate edema.
