Mahuang Fuzi Tang + Shenzhuo Tang is a combination of two traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formulas. This combination is also referred to as Mahuang Fuzi and Shenzhuo Decoction (MFSD). It has been used in TCM for over 1800 years, primarily for the treatment of conditions associated with Yang deficiency and cold-dampness. In modern research, MFSD has shown efficacy in treating membranous nephropathy (MN), a common cause of nephrotic syndrome in adults. The mechanism appears to involve modulation of autophagy-related proteins and inhibition of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, which are implicated in podocyte injury and renal fibrosis. MFSD contains approximately 30 active components identified by HPLC-MS analysis[1]. Its clinical effects have been found comparable to glucocorticoids or immunosuppressants such as cyclosporine A in animal models[1].
