Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Mahuang Xuanfei Zhike (MXZ) syrup is a Chinese patent medicine widely used for the clinical treatment of cough. It contains six core active components: ephedrine, amygdalin, chlorogenic acid, harpagoside, forsythin, and forsythoside A. A UPLC-MS/MS method has been established for the quantitative analysis of these components in biological samples, and pharmacokinetic and tissue distribution studies have shown that these active components are quickly absorbed and slowly eliminated in vivo, potentially involving a reabsorption process.
