Overview

Maivatinib is an orally bioavailable, small-molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) that targets the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). Developed by Huadong Medicine, it is designed to treat advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) harboring both common sensitizing mutations (such as exon 19 deletions and L858R) and rare EGFR mutations (including exon 20 insertions). The drug has received Breakthrough Therapy designation from China's Center for Drug Evaluation (CDE) for the treatment of NSCLC with rare EGFR mutations. In clinical trials, maivatinib has demonstrated efficacy in the first-line treatment of EGFR-sensitive NSCLC, meeting the primary endpoint of a Phase 3 study, with a New Drug Application (NDA) filing anticipated in 2024.
