Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Majoven XL is a prolonged-release capsule formulation of venlafaxine hydrochloride, a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) developed and marketed by Bristol Laboratories. It is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder and various anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, and panic disorder. The drug functions by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine through its interaction with the serotonin transporter (SERT) and norepinephrine transporter (NET), thereby increasing neurotransmitter levels in the synaptic cleft. The prolonged-release formulation is designed for once-daily oral administration, providing sustained therapeutic exposure and improving patient compliance compared to immediate-release formulations.
