Overview

MAK11049 is an orally available small molecule therapeutic being developed by MAK Scientific Management for the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases, specifically colitis and Crohn's disease. The compound is designed to modulate the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which plays a critical role in regulating gastrointestinal inflammation, motility, and visceral sensation. MAK Scientific's platform focuses on a variety of ECS targets, including the cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2, metabolic enzymes such as fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH), monoacylglycerol lipase (MGL), N-acylethanolamine-hydrolyzing acid amidase (NAAA), and diacylglycerol lipase (DGL), as well as cannabinoid transporters. MAK11049 has demonstrated in vivo proof-of-concept in preclinical models of intestinal inflammation, suggesting potential efficacy in human inflammatory bowel disease.
