Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MAKcell is a mitochondrial-enhanced immune cell therapy developed by Taiwan Mitochondrion Applied Technology Co., Ltd. for the treatment of cancer. The therapy is based on cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells that have been modified using the company's proprietary Mitochondrial Reconstruction Technology (MRT) platform. By transplanting healthy mitochondria into the CIK cells, the therapy aims to enhance their metabolic fitness and augment their anti-tumor cytotoxic functions. This approach addresses the common issue of mitochondrial dysfunction in immune cells within the tumor microenvironment, which often leads to immune exhaustion. MAKcell is currently in the preclinical stage of development and represents a novel application of mitochondrial medicine in the field of oncology.
