The Malaria Bi-Valent Vaccine (also referred to as the Malaria Bi-Specific Vaccine or Infection and Transmission Blocking Malaria Bi-Specific Vaccine) is a preclinical-stage recombinant nanovesicle (rOMV-based) vaccine being developed by Versatope Therapeutics. Built on Versatope's proprietary Recombinant Extracellular Transport Vesicle (RET-V) platform, which utilizes molecularly engineered probiotic *Escherichia coli* Nissle 1917 cell lines to display antigens on vesicle surfaces, the vaccine is designed to generate immune responses against both infection-stage (pre-erythrocytic) and transmission-stage malaria parasite antigens. This dual-stage mechanism of parasite control aims to block both the initial malaria infection and onward transmission, offering a more comprehensive defense than existing single-target malaria vaccines. The program is supported by a Phase 2 SBIR grant (grant #R44AI181242) from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and is currently in preclinical development for the prevention of malaria.
